Chairs: Antique & Unique One of the most unique pieces in the exhibit, this hand-crafted chair was made primarily of
whalebone and is part folk art, part seat furniture and all whimsy! Composed of a whale's ribs and vertebrae with decorative wooden supports, it appears to date from the early 1900s when American whaling had largely disappeared. Likely crafted by an "old salt" with long memories of the industry's hey day, it descended in a local family before being donated to the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum.
