The Wickham Farmhouse

The Wickham Farmhouse is a pre-Revolutionary period house originally constructed on Rte. 25 (Main Road), then known as the King’s Highway. It was donated to the Historical Council in 1965 and moved to the Village Green for preservation. Now restored, the Wickham Farmhouse is an excellent example of a Cape Cod style dwelling of the mid-18th century. Typical of the form, it is one story high and nearly square in plan, with a large central chimney. The parlor and master chamber flank the front doorway, while the kitchen is set against the back and smaller unheated rooms occupy the remainder of the plan. The attic, at first unfinished, was “expandable” in much the way modern-day Levitt houses (also “capes”!) were designed.
The house is furnished with many 19th  century artifacts that portray everyday life in early Cutchogue.
