SUMMARY:Family History Day
DESCRIPTION:On May 27\, 2023\, from 10 am to 4 pm (rain date May 28) on the Village Green in Cutchogue; the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council & Museums  will hold a Family History Day. The day is designed to be a fun way for families and children to learn about their local history. It’s created around the 3rd New York Regiment\, which will be reenacting drills & recreating an encampment from the Revolutionary War. This group is named and modeled after the regiment authorized on May 25\, 1775\, and comprised of men from Suffolk County. They will also be talking about our area’s involvement in the Revolutionary War. \nThere will be colonial cooking demonstrations with food cooked over an open flame from 18th-century recipes. See examples of colonial textile making\, including spinning and weaving. Listen to an old Naval Balladeer perform historic music of the late Colonial Period and the American Revolution. Meet Tee-Pee Ted and learn about the local Corchaug Indian tribe through hands-on teaching methods. The Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library will be providing colonial games\, and of course\, we will be offering tours of all of our historic buildings on the Village Green. \nThere will also be food and raffles\, so bring the whole family and have fun while learning about your local history. We strongly encourage everyone to come in period costume to get into the spirit of the day! (Suggested donation $5.00)

SUMMARY:Community Service Credit for High School kids! Old Burial Ground Conservation and Treatment Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On May 13 at 10am to 2 or 3 pm\, we are having a conservation and treatment workshop at the Old Burial Ground in Cutchogue on the corner of the Main Road and Harbor Lane. Professional preservations Joel Snodgrass and Zach Studentroth will be running it and teaching how to clean\, restore and repair the stones. In the second part of the day\, after a provided lunch\, you will be implementing what you learned. The event requires preregistration\, so please email cutchgouehistory@gmail.com. by May 10. This event is geared toward high school students working to get their community service points for their diplomas\, but all are welcome.

Booth\, an Extraordinary 19th Century Woman” She will be discussing her life and times on Long Island and 19th-Century  New York. Writer\, historian\, abolitionist\, and suffragist\, Booth wrote The History of the City of New York\, translated 47 books\, was the founding editor of Harper’s Bazar and worked for Abraham Lincoln. The talk will be held in the Community Room in the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library and hosted by the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council & Museums .

DESCRIPTION:On February 26\, 2023\, 2:00 pm- Mark MacNish\, Executive Director of the CNSHC\, will be giving a talk entitled “The Orphan Trains\, A Local Family’s Tale.” He will be talking about his family’s experience with the Orphan Trains\, an experimental social welfare project that operated between 1854 and 1929. The talk is a culmination of years of historical research resulting in his family’s story\, which ended in both happiness and tragedy. The talk will be held in the Community Room in the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library and hosted by the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council & Museums .

The concert begins at 7:00 and features the Long Island Sound Symphony and will be held in the style of the Douglas Moore concerts of the past.  Please feel free to come to the Village Green as early as 5:00 and bring your picnic baskets to picnic on the Green while you enjoy the concert.
