Volunteer Jim Baker has captured some wonderful images of The Old House with his aerial camera and shares them here with us to enjoy. These bird’s eye views give us a new way of seeing this extraordinary, post-Medieval style dwelling, its massing so compact and so different from the Colonial era style houses that were to come. Simple. Undecorated. Somber. How can we understand and penetrate this world of our Puritan ancestors, whose lives were shaped by their surroundings and whose successes in conquering the wilderness around them led centuries later to the prosperity of a new nation?
The refurnishing and reinterpretation of The Old House, with the support and encouragement of many volunteers as well as funding from the Gerry Charitable Trust and the Century Arts Foundation, will help us to answer the questions that arise from studying the lifeways and hardships of our hearty ancestors.
