New Website and Blog Launched

Welcome to our newly designed website and blog.

Although our new website has a new look and many updated features, the most important is our ability to customize the content. Although history is technically static, we are always finding out new things about the past through archeology, scientific testing, and the discovery of new objects or documents, amongst other information that comes our way. Through our blog, we hope to be able to keep you up to date on these new findings and how they change the historical narrative.

We also hope to be able to share the stories of our founding fathers, the indigenous peoples, and the untold stories of the historically marginalized and underrepresented communities. And of course, there are the many stories surrounding our historical buildings on the Village Green, the objects they contain, and the people in our community who work to preserve these treasures.

There will be announcements and stories about our events. The first of the season is the Family History Day on June 4, 2022 (rain date June 5), from 10 am to 4 pm.

We hope you can channel your inner Outlander and come to our Family History Day. Celebrate our revolution as if you were there, without having to pass through those pesky stones! The day is designed to be a fun way for families and children to learn about their local history. It’s created around the 3rd New York Regiment, which will be reenacting drills & recreating an encampment from the Revolutionary War. This group is named and modeled after the regiment authorized on May 25, 1775, comprised of men from Suffolk County. They will also be talking about our area’s involvement in the Revolutionary War.

There will be colonial cooking demonstrations with food cooked over an open flame from 18th-century recipes. See examples of colonial textile making, including spinning and weaving. Listen to an old Naval Balladeer perform historic music of the late Colonial Period and the American Revolution. Meet Tee-Pee Ted and learn about the local Corchaug Indian tribe through hands-on teaching methods. The Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library will be providing colonial games, and of course, we will be offering tours of all of our historic buildings on the Village Green.

There will also be food and raffles, so bring the whole family and have fun while learning about your local history. We strongly encourage everyone to come in period costumes to get into the spirit of the day! (Suggested donation of $5.00)
