Readying Ourselves for the 2023 Spring/Summer Season

We are in the process of preparing for our new 2023 season. We have been cleaning the historic buildings, arranging exhibits, and tending to the grounds as well as lots of sprucing up and repairs. Decks on the barn and bathrooms have been rebuilt and repainted, and repairs were made to the Old House, including a restaining in the fall.  Rails in the split rail fencing have been replaced. The Carriage House has been repainted and extensively repaired, inside and out; we are getting the gift shop ready for its grand re-opening on June 14, combined with the opening of a temporary exhibit called “Honoring WWI veterans and those they left behind,” which will tell the story of how our local community supported our veterans in the early part of the 20th century.  We are also planning lots of fun events starting off with the second annual Family History day on May 27, a great start to this year’s Memorial Day weekend. And of course our regular tour times begin the following weekend on June 3.

We were very excited that the Old house has been the subject of a photo shot and article in Historic Homes Magazine. They haven’t confirmed when the article is coming out, but we have been featured on their Instagram and if you have any interest in the subject, their photos are breathtaking, so the Instagram is definitely worth following. We hope to carry copies of the magazine in the Carriage shop in the future.

And as we were busy reading the grounds, local photographer Rory MacNish donated his time, efforts and talents to create this video for the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council on a beautiful spring day recently.
